Since no houses would agree for an interview, and I can't get into the castle, my original will not work. So I will have to take a new approach. When Cory Jones, a Louisville resident outside UK, was asked how the castle has affected him? without giving Cory any foreknowledge of the Post Castle story.. Which he stated as "the castle is some entertainment for an unexciting back to school for classes to begin again on Monday." Would you agree that this castle is a symbol of anything? was questioned to Cory, and he replied with, "I view this as a a symbol of creativity (and its freaking cool)." I agree with Cory about the Castle being cool, entertaining, and creative, but I wanted a little more insight. So I found a Lexington native right outside of Funkhouser building on the UK campus to quickly question. Jamie Reddington had already known the story of the Martin Castle becoming the Post Castle and all the details in between (which are posted in the previous blog). This would make for a deeper answer than Cory's perspective. Jamie told me that "it (the castle) has been there all my life; it is not as interesting anymore since I have seen it at least once a week going to my grandpa's house. I used to get excited as a little girl but now its just a big house that all new comers are attracted too." This gave me a different perspective for sure, and kind of a little sarcasm with how she said all new comers are attracted too. Ignoring the sarcasm, I went on to ask her what the castle symbolized. Her answer gave me quite a bit more to work with. She replied "the castle is a symbol that not all love stories come." How is that I asked? She continued "the Martin guy (Rex Martin) got so into building the castle for the love of his wife that he let the castle actually detour him from his actual love. The castle is the reason for there divorce." This gave me so much neat insight to work with. Maybe greed blocked there relationship like many of us today? This can be related my life today as well as make for a great point to prove along in my upcoming essay. Our hearts can be turned to stone when we get greed in our head? Can love be overtaken by greed and wants?

The Post Castle was originally known as the Martin Castle because it was originally owned by Rex Martin. In fact Rex Martin owned, designed, and engineered the castle. Rex Martin was a wealthy developer who fell in love with castles in Europe along with his wife, so he designed and engineered turrets, walls, and castle for his lover. Not to bad for a psychology major. Martin then bought 50 acres on the corner of Versailles road and Pisgah Pike in Woodford county, Kentucky to build their dream. In 1969 as the the Castle was being built, the Martin family went through some hard times, and as a result, a divorce was put in the way of finishing the castle. The castle was nearly finished, but it sat unchanged for over twenty years. Rex Martin's son would not continue to own the castle, so in Rex Martin's dying years the castle was sold to Tom Post. The seven bedroom, three dining room castle was no longer part of the Martin family after owning it for over thirty years. How could anyone afford to spend this much money?
Tom Post, a UK grad, quickly went into revamping the castle and made new plans for the, newly named, Post Castle. As renovations went into affect, the castle mysteriously caught fire one night in May of 2004. This fire set back the renovations years. Now the castle is back on track to being finally finished after 40 years. The Post Castles is now planned to be a bed and breakfast and oversized event hall. The opening was scheduled for fall 2008, but it is now to pushed to a further. I wonder if this will ever be successful enough to actually make money?, or will it ever be finished? Do you think the castle will make the community better or worse as a bed and breakfast? Could it possibly make the castle more of something kind of neat, than a place of awe and amazement? The mystery of the castle creates something unique; I hope the new renovations will keep it that way.

Due to the NO TRESPASSING  at the entrance and nonreturned emails, I have not yet stepped foot in the Post Castle. I believe this would make for a more well-rounded paper, so for now I will rely on other sources to continue about the Post Castle.

On my way to see the Post Castle I was excited to finally see inside of it. I had driven past it so many times, but now I could see it from a different view. As I pulled up to the Post Castle, I noticed the gigantic stone towers on each corner of the castle and the humungous center piece. The castle was so fantastic I could of sworn someone had enlarged a lego castle or a big brown White Castle. It was amazing to get close to. I pulled over to take some quick outside pictures of the castle. Now I needed to see the inside for myself. As I got closer, I noticed the bulldozers and construction machines and at the gate stood a NO TRESPASSING sign which just blew me away. I wasn't very happy about not being able to get close. I was very disappointed to not get in but was still excited to see the castle closer than I had.
Since I couldn't get inside, I watched the Post Castle's surroundings to see peoples reactions and to see if anyone would go in. I kept a close on the car passer-byes. About half the drivers in the cars took there eye off the wheel to view the castle. All kinds of people pointed and one car (like me) stopped to take some quick pictures. I set out front for nearly twenty minutes watching. I was intrigued with the views of the passer-byes but disappointed with no one entering the castle. As I looked at the castle lawn, the beginning of a moat had begun to take shape. I thought the wall was enough protection, but it seems they want this place to be very secure for some big reason.

Introduction

Im investigating the Martin Castle or Post Castle on Versailles Road because it is very neat and pretty well known, but we don’t know much about it. I wanted to find out about the Post Castle more in depth and find out what others think about it. I know that rex Martin started building the castle for his wife until they got divorced. I want to know what happened to the castle from when Rex Martin owned it and now. I also would like to know what are the future plans for the Post Castle. I would like to be able to get the neighbors perspective and the opinion of the many passer-byes. I will ask neighbors around that area on what they think. I will also ask my friends who drive past the castle on the way to school. I don’t know if I will be able to actually get into the castle because it is posted with NO TRESPASSING signs. But I am excited to see what I can find out. My goal for this project is to have a little fun exploring this castle and uncovering neat little things about it.
