Since no houses would agree for an interview, and I can't get into the castle, my original will not work. So I will have to take a new approach. When Cory Jones, a Louisville resident outside UK, was asked how the castle has affected him? without giving Cory any foreknowledge of the Post Castle story.. Which he stated as "the castle is some entertainment for an unexciting back to school for classes to begin again on Monday." Would you agree that this castle is a symbol of anything? was questioned to Cory, and he replied with, "I view this as a a symbol of creativity (and its freaking cool)." I agree with Cory about the Castle being cool, entertaining, and creative, but I wanted a little more insight. So I found a Lexington native right outside of Funkhouser building on the UK campus to quickly question. Jamie Reddington had already known the story of the Martin Castle becoming the Post Castle and all the details in between (which are posted in the previous blog). This would make for a deeper answer than Cory's perspective. Jamie told me that "it (the castle) has been there all my life; it is not as interesting anymore since I have seen it at least once a week going to my grandpa's house. I used to get excited as a little girl but now its just a big house that all new comers are attracted too." This gave me a different perspective for sure, and kind of a little sarcasm with how she said all new comers are attracted too. Ignoring the sarcasm, I went on to ask her what the castle symbolized. Her answer gave me quite a bit more to work with. She replied "the castle is a symbol that not all love stories come." How is that I asked? She continued "the Martin guy (Rex Martin) got so into building the castle for the love of his wife that he let the castle actually detour him from his actual love. The castle is the reason for there divorce." This gave me so much neat insight to work with. Maybe greed blocked there relationship like many of us today? This can be related my life today as well as make for a great point to prove along in my upcoming essay. Our hearts can be turned to stone when we get greed in our head? Can love be overtaken by greed and wants?

Aha. This interview started leading you down the same path I started traveling in my previous comment, i.e. re: unrealized dreams (and tarnished love stories.) I think you're right in getting excited here; these seem like rich possibilities for reflection. What does that castle symbolize, and how does it symbolize different things to different people? I'm also interested in the comment that now it's boring and familiar to the natives, but a draw for the "newcomers." Isn't it amazing that a castle could become uninspiring in the middle of a Kentucky countryside? In what ways do you think other marvelous things become devalued by their familiarity? That's another possible track....

I'm looking forward to reading more!
